I am a graphic designer with over ten years experience in the industry and over time have gradually moved from art directing photography shoots to actually performing the shoots myself. Early 2006 I took a sabbatical from work and travelled to Japan to walk the 88 Temple Pilgrimage on the island of Shikoku. The experience awoke in me a great appreciation and love of coastal regions at dawn, which has stayed with me since my return.
I find the coasts of Essex and Suffolk greatly inspiring, superficially they look unchanging in reality the high levels of erosion caused by the actions of tide and weather ensure that they are always different. Although lacking the imposing and rugged natural formations of other coastal areas in Britain the flat topography and gentle sloping beaches allow for the capture of the dawn sky in all its glory.
When the opportunity presents itself I try to photograph other areas of Britain, so far managing the north coast of N. Ireland and the Glencoe area of Scotland. Furture trips should include Wales, Cornwall and a return to Scotland... hopefully in better weather!
